About AKHS-A (Aga Khan Health Service-Afghanistan): Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa. The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities. Since 2003 AKHS, A is implementing Healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary Healthcare, Preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. The current working modality and role of AKHS, A in Bamyan and Badakhshan provinces as BPHS and EPHS implementer. AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwifery. AKHS, A tapped into internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary supports to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A scale up AKDN innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission.
Job Description
Effective management of patients:
Ensure optimum staff performance with an emphasis on customer service and delivery of quality patient care.
1. Conduct daily ward rounds for support to MDs, observation and review of patients.
2. Run specialist clinics on a regular basis.
3. Regularly visit and assess all new borns in the hospital
4. Regularly monitor patients’ progress and provide documentation.
5. Attend to Paediatric emergency cases when necessary and be on 24 hrs call.
6. Carry out emergency Paediatric procedures.
7. Ensure complete daily documentation of patient case notes/files
8. Ensure complete discharge, referral and feedback procedures for patients
9. Counsel patients and relatives on health management.
10. Maintain regular contacts with heads of other departments to ensure harmonization of patients’ management.
11. Review and develop appropriate policies and procedures for patients’ health care to formulate best practice guidelines based on EPHS.
12. Ensure timely availability of required support services in the process of treating patients, particularly when referred to other specialists.
13. Liaise with other consultants on handling specialized cases in provision of patients’ health care.
Prepare timely and accurate medical reports, audits and mortality reviews. Responsible for presenting and distributing these reports to appropriate users

Reporting:
· You are to report to the head of pediatric department, who can also assign any other responsibilities to you in addition to the above prescribed duties.
Job Requirement
Education: Medical Doctor (Male/Female)
· With Post Graduate degree in paediatric (specialty training program) from a reputable institution.
· Master trainer from Post graduate program of paediatric field is highly preferred.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience working as paediatrician in paediatric department at hospitals especially in neonatology.
Skills:
• Good computer skill in word, excel, MS office,
• Good spoken and written English language skills
• Good coordination skills
• Able to work independently and can take initiative
• Flexible team player
Technical Skills:
• Having basic surgical skills will be an advantage.
• Good communication and inter-personal skills.
• Experience in training other Drs, Midwives and Nurses
Other Skills: Bamyan local or willingness to stay in Bamyan for a long time.
· Willingness to do on call duties after closing hour.
Personal Characteristics: Flexible team worker.
