Job Description

Accountable to:                                Nutrition Field Manger

Date of Next Review:                     January 2023

Major Goal of the Position:         Training and awareness raising for malnourished children under 5 and Pregnant and Lactating women through community training session and follow up on “Defaulters”.

 

Key Result Area (KRA) 1:   Promote Op Mercy Nutrition program activities. The Community Trainer will:

  1. Initiate Nutrition program activities in new communities in conjunction with the program plan.
  2. Meet with community leaders to initiate new program areas.
  3. Advocate, explain and support Op Mercy Nutrition project activities and values to the community.
  4. Meet target numbers for initiating and completing Nutrition modules and program activities.

 

Key Result Area (KRA) 2:   Training and overseeing Community Nutrition Promoters. The Community Trainer will:

  1. Develop a strong relationship with all coworkers and beneficiaries, seeking to be an example in teamwork, self-sacrifice, positive outlook and integrity.
  2. Form groups and train men in the communities, according to the action plan in conjunction with the program plan. Think of creative ways to form different groups and include mullahs, teachers, wakils etc.
  3. Utilize community assessment data to individualize each community training event.
  4. Conduct Nutrition training in a way that ensures that trainees pass on their knowledge in the community.
  5. Deliver effective Nutrition promotion activities in partner communities.
  6. Responsible for sourcing and handing out weekly refreshments to promoters.

 

Key Result Area (KRA) 3:  Monitoring and Reporting. The Community Trainer will:

  1. Monitor and record male participants’ attendance accurately.  .
  2. Submit accurately completed promoter data reports every work day.
  3. Ensure that the target number of participants in each community submits assessment reports for each session.

 

Key Result Area (KRA) 4:  General Program and Op Mercy Office. The Community Trainer will:

  1. Apply the training they receive and serve as role models for good Nutrition behavior at the Op Mercy office and in the communities.
  2. Assist the Community Trainer team leader to prepare reports, materials and other requested items within the Nutrition office as requested by the project manager/director.
  3. Perform any other duties as directed by the manager/director.
  4. Maintain an attitude of learning that continuously seeks to grow in professional skills and language learning and cultural understanding of the target community and co-workers.

 

 

Profile and Qualifications of Community Trainer:

 

Non-negotiable:

Very good inter-personal skills, ability to express his thoughts clearly

Able to teach and able to be taught

Experience in community training

Friendly, kind and able to communicate with people of all cultures with respect

Good speaking, reading, writing and typing ability in Dari

Good speaking, reading, writing and typing ability in Pashto

Some speaking, reading, writing and typing ability in English

Good computer and data entry skills

Able to travel 3-4 days weekly to villages outside Kabul city in Kabul province

Able to travel outside Kabul province for training events

Strong interest in health and well-being of all members of society

Decent, respectable appearance

Honest and hard-working, even without direct supervision

 

Negotiable:

Good speaking, reading, writing and typing ability in English

Fluent in speaking Pashto

Experience in group facilitation

Experience in Nutrition or related fields
