Job Description

Job Purpose : 

The midwife will work in the MCHC established in the community. The midwife is directly responsible for the provision of Antenatal Care, Postnatal care, family planning, newborn care, health education and referral of complicated cases. The MCHC midwife works under the supervision of the MCHC in-charge.

Main Duties & Responsibilities : 

 Main responsibilities:

  • Provide Antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC) and family planning services.
  • Provide awareness sessions on: ▪ major complications of pregnancy, antenatal and postnatal, family planning, institutional delivery and its importance and benefits in maternal and neonatal mortality reduction.
  • breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, menstrual hygiene, family planning methods, its benefits and information related to service availability at nearest health facilities.
  •  vaccines, its benefits and importance, and referral of women and girls to the nearest health facility for the vaccination.
  •  other available services in the MCHC such as Psychological first aid (PFA), Psychosocial support (PSS) and youth awareness on healthy lifestyles.
  • Identify women and adolescent girls with reproductive health complications and referral to nearest health facilities.
  • Refer women and girls with psychosocial distress and postpartum depression to PSS counselors for psychosocial support interventions.
  • Maintain data entry registers and other information related to Antenatal Care, Postnatal care, family planning, newborn care, health education and referral of complicated cases as per organization and UNFPA requirements on already developed tools.
  • Develop weekly and monthly reproductive health (RH) activity plans with coordination of the MCHC in charge.
  •  Participate in the mother and child health center weekly, monthly planned and ad hoc meetings.
  •  Work closely with other MCHC staff members to build a professional team.
  •  Perform any other MCHC-related task assigned by MCHC in charge.
  •  Collaborate with other team members to enhance the overall effectiveness of the MCHC.

  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.

Compliance & Ethics:

  • Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

Job Requirement

Qualifications : 

Graduate from the recognized midwifery school or Community midwifery education (CME) program.

Local candidate will be given preference

Experience : 

 Minimum 1- 2 years of experience working within BPHS health facilities or with a Humanitarian NGO/Agency in a similar position.

Competency : 

  • Good communication skill both in writing and oral in Dari/Pashto essential
  •  Ability to communicate clearly and work well with others in a team environment.
  • Good capacity and analysis of conflict management to provide advises to the population.
  • Written and spoken English is a plus.
  • To be able to propose solutions to the identified problems/challenges.
  • Flexibility is requested regarding the working hours and the live-in community after the working hours.
