Job Description
- Summary of Key Functions
At HF level:
- Register and undertake growth monitoring and promotion (GMP) including measuring weight, height, age and check oedema of all children under two years of age.
- Conduct GMP based counselling of mothers/caregivers of all children under two years of age on appropriate Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) practices and infection prevention.
- If the child is normal, encourage and counsel the mother to reinforce and promote age appropriate MIYCN practices.
- If a child is suffering from SAM, refer to the doctor of the clinic for adequate treatment and counselling.
- Counsel mothers/ caregiver to bring they’re under two children for the continues monthly GMP visit.
- Check whether child has received Vitamin A supplementation during the previous NID, if not then refer to the administrator of Vitamin A in clinic
- Conduct complementary feeding demonstration once per month.
Counselling on Maternal Nutrition:
- Measure lactating mothers MUAC, weight, height and find BMI and categories as normal, underweight, overweight, and obese after the first PNC till the mother breastfeed her child.
- Provide individualized nutrition counselling on appropriate practices, based on the BMI findings.
- Check whether lactating mother receives adequate IFA tablets within three months after delivery.
At the Community level:
- Work and coordinate with social mobilizer during the monthly meetings (as much as possible) to:
- To Share the GMP defaulter cases list with social mobilizer and follow up.
- Mentoring social mobilier on topics such as GMP, counselling skills, proper home visit
Recording and Reporting:
- Maintain regular reports to monitor and track delivery of nutrition services.
- Using MCH handbook reporting in provinces the MCH handbook apply.
- Identify beneficiaries which require follow-up visits and share information with social mobilizer within the catchment area of the SHC.

- Reports to health facility In-Charge and field supervisor
- Coordinate with Members of the sub health centre (SHC), and the Provision of Essential Life-Saving Healthcare Services to Underserved Populations Affected by Earthquakes in Herat Province staff.
- Duty Locations Herat Province (Gulran and Kushk/Robat-e -Sangi districts)
- Key Results Expected
- To work as part of the CARE International SHC Teams.
- To accurately growth monitoring of children under two years old conducted, and appropriately consoled adhering to national and international guidelines and organizational procedures.
- Nutrition health and hygiene education and MIYCN counselling provided to pregnant and lactating women and care takers of children.
- Support provided to the health and nutrition nurse in performing OPD-SAM, OPD-MAM, and screening.
- Support provided to the health and nutrition nurse in the process of service delivery and coordination.
- Give appropriate nutrition health and hygiene education to the beneficiaries and care takers in individual and group sessions.

Education:
- Graduated from 12 grad or A diploma in nutrition counselling or certification of receiving nutrition counselling initial training from a recognized institute or entity within the country or from abroad.
Work Experience:
- The Candidate must have at least one-years’ relevant work experience in BPHS related health facilities.
Languages Skills:
- Fluency in spoken and written Dari and Pashtu is a requirement. English Language skills is a plus point.
