About NCA: NCA is one of the largest aid organizations in the Nordic region, with 21 country offices in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East, including four joint country offices and other partner organizations. The mandate of the NCA is to save lives and seek justice. We achieve this by working with long-term development programmes, humanitarian interventions and advocacy towards decision-makers to address the root causes of injustice, poverty and power imbalance. Most of our work cooperates with local civil society partners and other NGOs. The post-holder will work under the project Promoting Ecosystem-based Adaptation and Resilient Livelihood (PEARL). The project aims to support highly vulnerable groups, i.e., women, girls, marginal farmers, etc., using an integrated and environmentally sustainable intervention to strengthen socioeconomic recovery and resilience under three intervention strategies. Pillar 1. Strengthen Community and Social Cohesion; Pillar 2. Supporting Women’s Well-being and Strengthening Livelihood Opportunities, and Pillar 3. Supporting Ecosystem-based livelihood. The provincial Natural Resource Management (NRM) Officer will provide technical leadership on a range of ecosystem-based adaptation, DRR and climate solutions, including approaches that will enable local partners to understand better the impact of climate risk on livelihoods and food security. Support the development of practical adaptation solutions for resilient food systems and renewable energy services to address the energy needs relating to commercial production and processing.
Job Description
The main tasks and responsibilities for this position (supervisory responsibilities, etc.):
Technical Support
- Provide technical leadership in watershed treatment activities, i.e., contour bunding, infiltration trenching, gully plugging, etc.,
- Lead in conducting watershed assessment and spatial mapping.
- Provide technical leadership in developing the watershed development plan
- Collaborating with the regional coordinator, natural resource management coordinator and climate change & resilience specialist, provide technical support in mainstreaming climate-smart agriculture approaches transform agri-food systems towards green and climate-resilient practices.
- In collaboration with local provincial private business entrepreneurs, support the design and use of energy-efficient stoves and heaters using locally available and affordable materials.
- Support and guidance, including technical assistance to tradespeople in promoting fuelefficient stoves and heaters.
- Provide technical leadership conducting training and workshops, including training of trainers (ToT) and hands-on practice.
- Support establishing a family kitchen garden by providing a plastic greenhouse, drip irrigation, gardening tools and a vegetable support kit.
- Support the regional coordinator to document lessons learned and promote best practices ensuring that learning is shared and considered in delivering results.
- Provide technical leadership in ensuring the appropriateness of watershed treatment and conservation activities through a cash-for-work modality.
- Provide technical support to local partners and Shura in establishing NRM committees and ensuring the inclusion of women and youth.
- Contribute to developing a project monitoring plan and conduct regular monitoring visits of project sites to ensure project activities are on track.
Reporting, Communication and Visibility
- In collaboration with the regional coordinator and the M&E officer, ensure timely and quality project activities and accomplishments reporting.
- In collaboration with the NCA Communications team, support the development of training materials, including visibility and public information materials.
- Support the regional coordinator in maintaining close links and coordination with local communities and district authorities.
- Support the regional coordinator to collaborate with partners in organizing advocacy platforms and providing oversight in advocacy initiatives.
Job Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry, Water Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or related field
- At least three (3) years of relevant experience, preferably in the area of watershed management, natural resource management, climate change adaptation and community-based development programmes
- Work experience in an international organization is an advantage as knowledge of UNDP projects.
- Can effectively communicate in English with exceptional writing, presentation and communication skills.
- Excellent skills in supporting project implementation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated experience in supporting the implementation of humanitarian aid and development interventions.
- Field experience implementing projects in hard-to-reach areas is an added advantage
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and excel.
