Job Description
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Radio Room Activities
- Knows how to operate all machines for Voice (Tel, VHF, HF) and for Data communication (SMS and E-mail)
- Respects and applies procedures and policies of Radio Room operations.
- Organizes and runs the radio room in Kandahar Sub Delegation.
- Transmits and receives messages through VHF and HF radio, telephone, satellite, taking into consideration the nature and priority of communications to be transmitted.
- Conducts radio checks with sites, vehicles, staff
- Update drivers and teams in the field on the development of the current security/emergency situation
- Keep Telecommunications Equipment Operational, and ensures that all the equipment placed under his/her responsibility is in good working condition
- Provide efficient support to users, focusing on the assists and trains newly arriving staff members
- Establishes SoP and other guidelines
Control and Maintenance
- Makes sure that ICT equipment is used properly by Radio Room Operators
- Checks that equipment is fully functional
- Cleans all equipment in Radio-room
- Reports to ICT department any malfunctioning of radio station.
Security
- Provides contributions to security reports
- Contributes to the security management to Sub delegation.
- Follow up the security screen all the time.
Team Supervision
- Supervises, trains and coordinates all radio operators in the sub delegation.
- Conducts the appraisals for the team.
- Develops and maintains a pleasant working atmosphere with the team.
- Draws up the duty schedule on a regular basis – including shifts, days off and holidays – and ensures replacements during absences so that the radio room remains operational 24/7.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments
- Is aware of the delegation’s objectives and has a good knowledge of the Movement and other contacts relevant to the position
- Collects and shares information so as to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses
- Represents the ICRC in an appropriate way during activities, in meetings and in the field, and avoids any activity that may reflect negatively on the ICRC’s image
- Takes responsibility for their own professional learning and development
Job Requirement
- University degree or equivalent
- 4 years’ work experience in a similar field
- Good command of written and spoken English and Pashto
- Computer proficiency
- Good knowledge of geographically assigned area of responsibility
- Good analytical skills
- Very good interpersonal skills
