The Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL) believes in a community based tailored, holistic approach that: raises the literacy rate, teaches job skills enabling women to contribute to their families and communities, ensures women and children are safe and know their rights, provides access to health care, education, legal aid and food aid and promotes Afghan culture and peace. Job Description

Apply medical and nutritional protocols to ensure the care of the beneficiaries in Nutrition center. To register, treat the malnourished children under 5, pregnant and lactating women.

Description of Duties

  • A) Admissions of eligible children U5 with severe acute malnutrition in OTP.

 Identify beneficiaries at risk.
 Manage the medical examination at admission stage: validate admission of beneficiaries in OTP.
 Refer severe acutely malnourished beneficiaries with medical complications to Therapeutic Feeding Units (TFU).
 Ensure the medical examination including childhood illness of beneficiaries at each.

  • B) visit in center:

 Check vaccinations and refer to appropriate health facilities when required;
 Administer the appropriate medication;
 Ensure nutritional follow up of the beneficiaries 
 Identify those beneficiaries who do not respond to the treatment and manage their follow up;
 Record information on the beneficiary card. Treatment provided should be recorded, as well as relevant comments; 
 Ensure medical examination at discharge: validate the discharge upon the status of the beneficiaries; 
 Check that the criteria of discharge are met and that the immunization is satisfactory (after prior referral).

  • C) AT discharge:

 Check if all the procedures completed before discharge (anthropometric measurements, medical and nutritional treatment, systematic treatment, and health and nutrition educations).
 Record all the necessary information on the registration book and card for each beneficiary.

  • D) Health and nutrition educations:

 Provide health and nutrition educations to the caregivers and beneficiaries on (breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and hygiene, care of pregnant and lactating women, prevention of illness).

  • E) Reporting and statistic of the center:

Keep a tally of all the beneficiaries admitted and discharged from the nutrition centre (admission, cured, defaulters, death, transfer and referral) by age group and admission criterion used.

Job Requirement

  • Diploma/ bachelor’s degree (medical nurse Or midwife)
  • At least 2 years’ experience in the field of management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (TFU, OTP of SAM, care practices).
  • Organization skills are necessary. 
  • Ability to read and understand English, Pashto and Dari
