Job Description
Background:
Youth Health and Development Organization (YHDO) is an Afghanistan nongovernmental organization that promotes health and advocate for the right of young people in the country. YHDO will implement the HIV NFM grant (Scaling up HIV interventions among Key Affected Populations in Afghanistan) in Herat, Farah, and Nimruz provinces.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for the management of day-to-day counseling sessions and rapid testing at DIC and Mobile Outreach Areas. HIV/AIDS counseling is a confidential dialogue between a person and a counselor aimed at enabling the person to cope with stress and make personal decisions related to HIV/AIDS. This includes information, education, and psychosocial support which allows the person to make informed decisions that facilitate the decision to undergo testing, coping with results, and implementing preventive behavior.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- He or she should follow the YHDO policy, rules, and regulations.
- The PWID counselor be present with the Mobile team and full working hours
- The counselor is responsible, reportable and accountable to team manager
- PWID counselor is responsible to protect all documents and equipment (in counseling room) and should follow up the confidentiality
- He or she will use the ANPASH /HTC guideline for counseling
- The counselor should have a certificate in counseling and be familiar in cultural and traditional aspects of Afghan society (urban and rural)
- The counselor should have an excellent greeting and welcome skills with clients, which is culturally acceptable for clients and to motivate them to shows interest to services and the counselor will maintain a respectful and professional attitude towards clients.
- . The counselors are responsible to do the pre & post-test counseling and fill out the informed consent form clients who are testing for HIV
- PWID counselor should able, how to deal in post-test counseling with HIV positive clients in a critical emotional state and how to help with these kinds of clients
- The counselor will attend the team meeting regularly
- The counselor is responsible for qualitative counseling and ensures that the clients are convinced (complete counseling cycle should be used)
- The counselor obligated to implement all rules and regulations which protect and keeps all confidentialities and clients’ privacy
- The counselor should avoid unnecessary disclosing of client’s information to other
- The counselor will fill the counseling register and record the counseling data timely
- Maintain counseling records (forms) and clients’ counseling files and keep under lock and key
- All HIV positive case should refer to ART coordinator for further procedure of treatment
- Counseling and testing will provide individually for clients in a confidential manner and keep the privacy also
- Ensure that clients may return to the same counselor for HIV test results
- The counselor should take part in the training (health staff on HIV counseling and tests) sessions as a facilitator
- Supportive to the needs of the clients especially women, young people and people from marginalized groups
- Explain the condom correct use to clients.
Job Requirement
- 1. Graduated from Psychosocial University or other health degrees.
- Two years’ experience in a psychosocial counseling field-related field and experience
- Familiar with HIV and AIDS field and knows the HIV relevant confidentiality
- She/he should have information about People Who injecting Drugs (PWIDs)
- Experience of working in managing health projects and will be able to work with the Mobile outreach team
- Knowledge of use of computer office program
- Excellent oral and writing skills in Pashto, Dari and good in English language
