About Marie Stopes International Afghanistan: Marie Stopes International Afghanistan (MSIA) was established after registration with government of Afghanistan in August 2002. MSIA follows the global mission statement of MSI, which is children by choice not by chance. Our focus is to contribute in reducing maternal mortality ratio, providing quality and sustainable MCH/RH and family planning services and information across all provinces of Afghanistan in coordination with Ministry of Public Health, Afghanistan. MSIA is currently operating in 14 provinces of Afghanistan namely, Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Jawzjan Faryab, Nengarhar, Baghlan, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Takhar, Samangan, Helmand, kandahar and Kapisa. MSIA delivers MCH/RH and family planning services through various channels such that centres, outreaches, social marketing and MS Ladies. Job Description
- Conducting morning meeting with all staff( if the midwife is the clinic in charge)
- Lead monthly staff meeting as per the agenda, draft minutes, and follow action plan for implementation( if the midwife is the clinic in charge)
- Provide necessary advise and assist in initial consultation of clients during pregnancy ( ANC ), labor and the postnatal period (PNC) and Family Planning methods
- Provision of correct examination of the clients (patients) and provide necessary advice
- Prescribe medicine according to right diagnosis and necessity of client
- Explaining the treatment plan to the patient and allow sufficient time for clients ask questions
- Write up necessary and required information on client cards and ensure important information is not missing
- Conduct monthly clinical record audit and report to Health Support and Research Team in Support Office
- Ensure all staff adhere infection prevention polices across the health facility
- Adhere with all infection prevention policies throughout service provision
- Perform instrument processing as per MSI infection prevention policy and guideline
- Participate in all kinds of training nominated by Health Support and Research Team
- Conduct training if provider is trained as clinical trainer
- Provide on the job training and supportive supervision for level 2 providers
- Keep record of training received and training provided in their training logbook
- Conduct competency assessment of other providers
- Maintain a good relationship with community
- Ensure MEM kit is complete, MEM drugs are up to date and MEM equipment are functioning well and fully ready for emergency
- Ensure pharmacy follows FEFO policy and stock cards are kept as per MSI policy
- Be well prepared to manage an emergency event, have the stepwise knowledge to refer client to a third facility
- Obtain and complete client consent form before performing the procedure as per each service guideline
- Ensure all incident reporting format is available in hard and soft copy and provider understand risk rating for clinical and product related incident
- Maintain proper referral system when required
- Provision of MSI FP services as per the guideline and job aids
- Provision of Client centred counselling as per the REDI framework/ usage of WHO wheel chart and MSI flip chart during counselling
- Follow up internal audit/ incident/ client feedback/staff meeting/ supervision and other related action plan for implementation and completion
- Be encourage to increase model areas in quality clinical governance and services
- Ensure all key clinical staff are immunized against HBS and HBS register is maintained and tracked up to date( if midwife is the clinic in charge)
- Perform any other required project-related tasks
Other Responsibilities:
- To be able to work outside of the normal working hours
- Assistance in keeping your work areas in the centre tidy, neat and clean.
- To collect antenatal obstetric and family planning data as required.
- Maintain proper referral system before referring clients
- Provide information and consultation on Family Planning for any patient comes to health centre
- Treat all clients with respect, provide privacy and maintain confidentiality
- Assisting clients to make a decision by helping to think through the choices
- Understanding and respecting clients rights
- Being brief, doing first things first, using simple words, and repeat the most important information during counselling
- Encouraging clients to ask question, and share concerns
- Make sure no one refers out client un necessary
Job Requirement
- Diploma in midwifery
- Demonstrated understanding of health system context and medical market (or similar) in Afghanistan.
- High level of written and oral communications skills in Dari and English, with a confident and professional manner.
- Proven ability to effectively work across teams and with support teams outside Afghanistan
Submission Guideline
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant area e.g. Business Administration, Computer science, Data Management, Database administration or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in related field
- Ability to coordinate the activities properly
- Sensitivity to women’s health issues and awareness of social needs in Afghanistan (or similar context).
