Job Description
Technical and Administrative Responsibilities of the Psychosocial counselor:
- Receive cases referred at the psychosocial counselling center (PSCC)
- Register cases and complete case records using standard tools (intake form, consent form, medical exam form, referral slip) for submission to Data Officer / Legal Counselor
- Inform mental health clients of her right to have full control over all information s/he shares, and to decide which, if any, medical investigation, or assistance she chooses to receive
- Perform physical examination of psychosocial clients in a respectful and culturally sensitive manner, and classify type and level of mental health
- Provide basic health and medical care as needed including wound care, pregnancy prevention, prophylaxis against HIV, Hepatitis, or STDs, based on the wishes and choices of the survivor or custodian of survivor, if s/he is too young or incapable of making decisions.
- Provide psychosocial clients with psychosocial support and counseling with 4 to 6 follow up counseling sessions if needed
- Conduct 1 to 2 family counseling sessions if needed to help family deal with the psychosocial situation and support the victim, to prevent rejection and abandonment of psychosocial clients by her/his family
- Inform clients and her custodians about referral needs, and assist them in making decisions about possible referral services, and complete referral authorization form
- Connect clients to psychosocial focal persons within referral organizations to facilitate easy
access to services for the psychosocial clients
Facilitate referral to forensic medicine focal person for collection of forensic evidence if desired by clients
- Provide clients and their custodians with necessary information about opportunities for protection
- Follow up medical cases referred with focal persons in relevant health care facilities
- Strictly adhere to standards of confidentiality and ethical handling of psychosocial information
- Attend weekly PSCC meetings and provide updates on medical/psychosocial counseling status of cases
- Provide monthly updates on medical drugs and supplies stock to PSCC In charge, so that
stocks can be replenished on a timely basis
- Participate in monthly case management meetings with psychosocial focal persons in stakeholder agencies and health facilities in a referral relationship with the PSCC, and provide updates on progress of cases
- Contribute to the development of monthly PSCC reports for presentation and psychosocial sub- cluster meetings
- Work closely with the PSCC team to build a professional team
- contribute to refresher training for focal persons in other healthcare facilities during case management meetings.
- Facilitate psychosocial clients visits with medical specialists
- Assist psychosocial clients in designing a Safety Plan for life threatening situations
Ethical and Procedural Guidelines:
1. Maintain an attitude of respect and support toward psychosocial clients.
2. Ensure adherence to procedures for confidentiality of psychosocial clients at every step
3. Follow ethical guidelines of psychosocial response established in psychosocial SOP
4. Intervene to minimize efforts and investment of resources required from psychosocial clients for
seeking health care and legal services.
5. Observe necessary protocols to diminish the security risks for all client’s providers visiting and/or working at PSCC
Job Requirement
- Psychology faculty/Psychosocial counseling Diploma, and minimum 2 years of work experience as a psychosocial counselor and experience in reproductive health care is plus point
- Education or exposure to psychosocial related work preferred
- Fluency in national languages, and working-level English language skills
- Successful completion of two-week psychosocial counseling training (at least).
- Advanced training in psychosocial counseling and/or experience is preferable
- Computer literacy and data entry experience
- Good communication and networking abilities
- Preference will be given to local candidates.
